Forty of the most academically brilliant and socially committed young people in the USA will take up a Gates Cambridge Scholarship to study at the ̽��ֱ�� of Cambridge this autumn as the programme continues to expand to a diverse range of institutions across North America. 

̽��ֱ�� ̽��ֱ�� of Cambridge has made 295 National Scholarship Programme awards to support students from low-income families starting at the university this year. Over 50 of these grants were made to students who had previously claimed Free School Meals.

̽��ֱ�� of Cambridge museums are among those highlighted as examples of best practice in a new report focusing on the outstanding contributions made by the ̽��ֱ�� Museums Group UK.

Five works by Stanley Spencer (1891-1959) have been accepted in lieu of inheritance tax and allocated to the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge. They include one of his most significant early paintings and two preliminary sketches documenting his experiences of World War I. ̽��ֱ��works were acquired through HM Government’s acceptance in lieu scheme with additional support from the Art Fund, ̽��ֱ��V&A Purchase Grant Fund and the Friends of the Fitzwilliam.

Dr Frederick Sanger, recognised by many as the “father of genomics”, died in 2013 at the age of 95. ̽��ֱ��founding member of the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, and the person after whom the Sanger Institute is named, he was known as an extremely modest and self-effacing man whose innumerable scientific contributions had an extraordinary impact on molecular biology.

CS Lewis, creator of some of the most-loved children’s stories and also a scholar of medieval and early modern literature, died half a century ago on 22 November. A scholarship to be set up in his name will support an outstanding graduate to study at Cambridge ̽��ֱ��

Prathiba M Singh, an Indian alumna of the Faculty of Law, has donated a scholarship that will allow other Indian students to complete an LLM at the world-renowned Cambridge Faculty of Law.
