̽��ֱ��Large Hadron Collider is being brought back to life, ready for Run II of the “world’s greatest physics experiment”. Cambridge physicists are among the army who keep it alive.

Scientists have successfully demonstrated a new way to control the “spin” of an electron – the natural intrinsic angular momentum of electrons which could underpin faster computing in the future. ̽��ֱ��technique counterintuitively makes use of the ever-changing magnetic field of the electron’s environment - one of the main obstacles to traditional methods of spin control.

In August 1984 two physicists arrived at a formula that transformed our understanding of string theory, an achievement now recognised by a major award. Professor Michael Green of the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics explains how string theory has taken unexpected directions.
