̽»¨Ö±²¥lecture, entitled ‘From Short Cracks to Glass Ceilings, or an Engineer in Wonderland’ will outline Professor King’s diverse career and her experiences in science.

After sixteen years as an academic researcher and university lecturer at Cambridge and Nottingham universities, Professor King joined Rolls-Royce in 1994. There she held a number of senior executive appointments, including Director of Advanced Engineering for the Industrial Power Group, Managing Director of the Fan Systems Business, and Engineering Director for the Marine Business.

In 2002 she became Chief Executive of the Institute of Physics, and in 2004 she returned to academia as Principal of the Engineering Faculty at Imperial College, London. In December 2006 she became Vice-Chancellor of Aston ̽»¨Ö±²¥.

Professor Athene Donald, Director of WiSETI said: ' ̽»¨Ö±²¥Annual Lecture provides a wonderful opportunity to invite a senior woman scientist to come and share her experiences with us in the ̽»¨Ö±²¥, both to inspire early career researchers and to motivate more senior ones to think about their actions. Given Professor King's wide-ranging career, in which she has worked in many different sectors and roles, I am sure we will all learn from her insight.'

̽»¨Ö±²¥talk is open to all and provides an opportunity for networking with the speakers and other attendees.

̽»¨Ö±²¥event is free and will begin at 5pm (doors open at 4:30pm) in ̽»¨Ö±²¥Auditorium, Robinson College. A drinks reception will follow the lecture.

̽»¨Ö±²¥lecture is hosted by the Vice-Chancellor of the ̽»¨Ö±²¥ of Cambridge and sponsored by Schlumberger.
