From a record number of entries the ̽��ֱ�� was shortlisted alongside Blackpool Council and the Unite Group, a property developer and the eventual winner.

̽��ֱ��Award recognises construction clients who stand out as a model for others in the industry and who have shown leadership, innovation, strategic thinking and a long term commitment to fostering improvement.

̽��ֱ�� ̽��ֱ�� of Cambridge currently has the largest higher education capital investment programme in the UK, with over £600 million of projects at various stages of design or construction. A programme of improvement and reform in its procurement of new buildings has led to 92% of its construction projects over the last four years completed on or below budget.

Six major construction projects were completed in 2004 with the £15 million Faculty of English and the £13 million Institute of Criminology on the Sidgwick Site, the £13 million Faculty of Education on Hills Road, the £9 million multi-storey car park at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, the £24 million Gurdon Institute on Tennis Court Road and the £21 million postgraduate accommodation blocks at West Cambridge.

“We are very pleased and proud of the recognition reaching the final brings for the exceptional team work we have seen over the past year,” said David Adamson, the outgoing Director of the Estate Management and Building Service.

Michael Bienias, who will be Acting Director from the beginning of December, said: “We look forward to maintaining these same high standards with our ongoing construction programme, concentrating on the lifetime value and architectural quality of each building.”

David Adamson leaves his post as Director of Estate Management and Building Service at the end of November 2005 after seven years there. He will be joining the Office of Government Commerce on secondment as Director of Smarter Construction, charged with improving standards of construction procurement across the public sector. Michael Bienias takes over as Acting Director from December 1.
