Seven award-winning student radio presenters from Cambridge’s student radio station CUR1350, will be hitting the airwaves for a special two-hour show on Monday morning.
̽»¨Ö±²¥appearance is one of the prizes which CUR1350 was presented with when it won the award for Best Student Radio Station in November last year, at the prestigious Student Radio Awards (SRAs).
̽»¨Ö±²¥seven were selected by former station manager Michael Brooks in recognition of their significant contributions to the station.
He said: “ ̽»¨Ö±²¥level of quality is evident from the fact that the BBC is letting us loose on one of their biggest national radio stations. We very much look forward to demonstrating to the rest of the UK what students, staff and researchers from Cambridge ̽»¨Ö±²¥ and Anglia Ruskin can listen to on CUR1350."
Kat Godfrey, a student at Churchill College who won the Best Female SRA will also be appearing on the station in a separate programme.
̽»¨Ö±²¥early morning breakfast slot on Radio 1 is particularly significant for student radio, with 2006’s winner of the Best Male SRA, Greg James, having taken the reigns in 2007. Their appearance on Radio 1 will be a major stepping-stone for the team, many of whom hope to pursue jobs in the industry.
Martin Steers, the newly elected Station Manager, said: "It's good to see students from bothAnglia Ruskin and Cambridge ̽»¨Ö±²¥ going to Radio 1. Both universities have students wishing to pursue a career in the media, and we actively recruit, support and encourage these students at CUR1350."
CUR1350 is Cambridge’s only radio station aimed specifically at students of its universities, presented, engineered and managed by students. Their broadcasts can be heard in Cambridge on 1350 AM, or via their website (see sidebar).
Their Radio 1 show will be broadcast from 5-7am on Monday 24 March. Kat Godfrey will be presenting her show from 3:30-5am.
