350 people are set to gather at Robinson College this weekend to mark the tenth anniversary of the foundation of the Gates Cambridge Scholarships at the 探花直播 of Cambridge.

In October 2000 the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation donated $210 million to the 探花直播, establishing the Gates Cambridge Trust.

探花直播Trust awards Gates Cambridge Scholarships to outstanding students from outside the UK to study at the 探花直播 of Cambridge.

探花直播programme aims to build a global network of future leaders committed to improving the lives of others.

Between 2001 and 2010 there have been almost 1,000 scholarships awarded to students from more than 90 countries around the world, with 80 to 100 awarded each year.

This Friday evening Gates Scholars past and present will meet at Robinson College for an opening drinks reception and welcome by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dame Alison Richard.

探花直播ensuing weekend will be filled with panel discussions and debate on such topics as education and technology, multiculturalism, addressing global challenges, corporate social responsibility, social networking and preserving the environment as well as a formal dinner and a garden party.

Dr Gordon Johnson (pictured), who has been Provost of the Gates Cambridge Trust from the start but will retire at the end of September, said: 鈥淲e look forward to welcoming current scholars and alumni to Cambridge this weekend to celebrate 10 years of the Gates Cambridge Scholarships. It is particularly gratifying that the impressive content and roster of speakers has been organised by the Gates Scholars鈥 Alumni Association, with support from the Gates Scholars鈥 Council.

鈥淚t will be a wonderful opportunity for our scholars and alumni to discuss a range of important global issues, reconnect with each other and to continue to build the Gates Cambridge Scholar and alumni network. We plan to share the weekend鈥檚 events as podcasts and a short film on our website shortly.鈥
