Who better to talk about student life at Cambridge than students and recent graduates who have first hand knowledge of what it鈥檚 like to study at the university 鈥 how the courses are structured, what the workload is like, and what to expect in terms of such vital matters as food, accommodation, fitting in and making friends?

Teachers and careers advisers booking places on the annual 探花直播 of Cambridge HE Advisers Conference (23-24 September) will be able to meet a small group of current students and recent graduates in an informal session organised to give teachers a flavour of the real Cambridge.

探花直播new dimension to the conference programme 鈥 which will cover the admissions process and recent changes, how to prepare for interviews and an overview of courses on offer 鈥 has been organised by Cambridge Admissions Office to help show participants that Cambridge doesn鈥檛 cater just for a 鈥渃ertain type鈥 of student 鈥 and is working hard to encourage more applicants from groups currently under-represented at the university.

Charlotte Richer (pictured above), a recent graduate who is now Access Officer at Cambridge 探花直播 Students Union, says that she is pleased to be invited to make a contribution to the event. She will be inviting a small group of current students to come and meet the teachers and answer questions.

鈥淲e will answer questions honestly and accurately and will hope to show teachers that students at Cambridge are a highly diverse bunch and have plenty in common with their pupils. A lot of progress has been made but there are still lots of myths about Cambridge to shatter. We need to impress on teachers that it is not expensive to study here,鈥 said Charlotte.

探花直播conference is being held at Robinson College. 鈥淲e鈥檙e really pleased to be hosting the event as it鈥檚 an opportunity to push home our message that we are looking for high academic standards in applicants, regardless of background,鈥 says Dr Chris Warner, Admissions Tutor at Robinson (above).

鈥淲e are still missing out on some excellent students, especially in the north of the country. Each year every big sixth form, and many small sixth forms, have students with the academic ability we are looking for, but not enough of them are applying. We want schools and colleges to know that they can bring groups to visit us and we will also go and visit them.鈥

He continued: 鈥淐ambridge offers excellent value for money. Students get individual attention and tuition from world leaders in their fields. In terms of Colleges, applicants have a huge choice of environment 鈥 from gothic splendour to modern architecture. A Cambridge College is so much more than a hall of residence 鈥 it鈥檚 a community.鈥

Honor Ridout, FE Access Officer at Cambridge Admissions Office, said: 鈥淲e are keen to encourage more teachers, careers and HE advisers to sign up for this conference 鈥 which will help them hugely in supporting applicants through the process of applying and will be an opportunity for them to get a first hand taste of Cambridge.鈥

探花直播deadline for applicants to the HE Advisers Conference is 9 September. For more information contact Honor Ridout he_advisers@cao.cam.ac.uk or
