For the third year running, Sidney Sussex College has emerged victorious in the annual Cambridge Culinary Competition.

探花直播winners were announced last week at an Awards Ceremony held at Magdalene College. As the highest-scoring team in the competition, the team from Sidney were awarded the Steward鈥檚 Cup. Teams from a record 15 Cambridge Colleges and other 探花直播 institutions took place in this year鈥檚 competition.

Participants competed in eight individual food classes at the competition, which was held at the Guildhall on 5 November. 探花直播participants were awarded marks by a team of professionals from the hospitality and catering industry, led by Peter Griffiths, MBE.

In addition to the culinary talents on show, Front of House staff created spectacular table settings themed on the 探花直播鈥檚 800th Anniversary.

Sidney Sussex College were named winners in three classes (in the Under 21鈥檚, Afternoon Tea Cakes and Petits Fours classes), Emmanuel College in two classes (Hot Main Course and Hot Vegetarian classes) and Madingley Hall in two classes (Canap茅s and Cold Starter classes). Other winners on the day were Queens鈥 College (Live Cookery Competition), St Catharine鈥檚 College (Cold Sweets) and Christ鈥檚 College (Front of House).

In addition, there were prizes for Piotr Porada of Murray Edwards College, who was named Best Newcomer, and for Nigel Tumber from Sidney Sussex College, who was named Best in Show.

Kelly Vickers, Manager of Conference Cambridge and one of the organisers of this year鈥檚 competition said: 鈥淲e wanted the 2009 Culinary Competition to be extra special as it is Cambridge 探花直播鈥檚 800th Anniversary - and so it has been! We had a record number of entries, the standards were higher than ever before and everyone involved has been impressed by the creativity and skill of all those taking part. Congratulations to all the winners - and to everyone who too part for their time and commitment in making this the special competition we wanted it to be.
