Are you planning a Christmas clear-out? Is the bottom of your wardrobe full of unworn shoes? 探花直播 staff can support the latest Blue Peter appeal by donating good quality second-hand shoes to raise funds for children in Malawi.
Donations to the Blue Peter and UNICEF Shoe Biz appeal should be taken to the 探花直播 Sports and Social Club on Mill Lane between 12 noon and 3 pm by Friday, January 5th. A box is provided in the foyer.
It鈥檚 estimated that every week in the UK 2 million pairs of usable shoes are thrown away. 探花直播Blue Peter appeal 鈥 which was launched by a donation of football boots from David Beckham - aims to turn this wastage into cash by collecting good quality shoes which can be sorted and re-sold.
探花直播money raised by the appeal will help fund the children鈥檚 clubs called 鈥淐hildren鈥檚 Corners鈥 set up by UNICEF to offer food, playtime, basic health care and support to some of Malawi鈥檚 poorest children, many of who are orphans.
According to the appeal, six pairs of second-hand shoes will raise enough to buy eight books, 69 pairs will buy a first aid kit, and 330 pairs will purchase a bicycle for a community care worker. To raise enough for a water pump, donations of 1,156 pairs will be need.
Donated shoes can be of any size or shape, from sandals to boots, pumps to plimsolls. They should be clean, sound and secured in pairs by laces or elastic bands.
