̽»¨Ö±²¥museum is joining in with national Museums at Night weekend, opening its doors for an evening of events, art and music from 6-9pm.
Now in its third year, Museums at Night promotes out-of-the-ordinary evening events of all types in museums across the country, from live re-enactments and special tours, to film screenings and even sleepovers in the galleries.
In Cambridge, the Fitz is holding a free evening of entertainment for all ages called Shadows and Lights, themed around light and dark.
Highlights include music by local samba band Arco Iris, jazz from Swingball and Songs of Starlight and Shadow from Rachel Godsill soprano and Marie-Noelle Kendall piano.
̽»¨Ö±²¥Museum is also presenting a live VJ digital event with film projections and sound, an evening opening of the major exhibitions Italian Drawings and Italian Etchings, family activities including lantern making workshops, demonstrations of how ancient Greek oil lamps were used, late opening of the shop, cocktails and refreshments in the Courtyard café.
There will also be a competition during the evening to win one of the replica ancient lamps, sourced directly from Greece.
This year’s Museums at Night event at the Fitzwilliam follows on from the incredibly popular Cambridge Museums’ evening opening Twilight at the Museums in February, which attracted over 2,600 visitors to the Fitz alone.
Shadows and Lights takes place at the Fitzwilliam Museum on Friday 13 May 2011 from 6 – 9pm; entry is free. For more information visit .
