Year 6 students from Rotherham have been taking part in a fun-packed science day, organised by the 探花直播 of Cambridge and Rotherham local education authority.
探花直播52 students, aged 10 or 11, spent a morning at the Magna Science Adventure Centre, Rotherham, gaining inspiration to help them meet the challenge of coming up with a concept for a computer game that would help 9 to 11-year-olds learn about forces and electricity.
Then, in the afternoon, they worked in teams to devise names, characters, story formats and introductory trailers for their 'computer games'.
探花直播challenge day was organised by Homerton College, Cambridge (which is linked with Rotherham LEA) and the 探花直播 of Cambridge Engineering Department's Engineering Interact scheme, which encourages school students to get interested in science and technology. Staff from Rotherham schools helped the students with their projects.
Homerton College Access Officer Rowena Seabrook said:
" 探花直播children were really enthusiastic about science and technology and their games were so impressive we hope to put them online soon."
探花直播challenge day took place on May 28. Staff from 26 Rotherham LEA schools were asked to nominate two gifted and talented students to take part.
Later this month, Homerton College is running a free, residential course for Year 9 and Year 12 students from Rotherham. Around 60 students will visit Cambridge from June 14-15 for a taste of university life, taking part in group discussions, lectures and other activities. They will also meet Cambridge undergraduates and staff.
