探花直播current Senior Tutor at Trinity College and Director of the Newton Trust has been appointed to the post of Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education at the 探花直播 of Cambridge.

Professor John Rallison will assume his new role on October 1, on the retirement of Professor Melveena McKendrick who has held the post since January 2004.

探花直播 探花直播 has five Pro-Vice-Chancellors who support the Vice-Chancellor in providing institutional and academic leadership to the 探花直播, and work in partnership with senior administrators to help drive strategy and policy development.

Professor McKendrick has had a long and distinguished career at Cambridge. She is Professor of Spanish Golden-Age Literature, Culture and Society in the Modern and Medieval Languages Faculty and a Professorial Fellow at Girton College.

She gained her first degree at King's College, London and her PhD and LittD at Cambridge. She served on the 探花直播's General Board, was Senior Tutor at Girton College for seven years and is a Fellow of the British Academy.

Professor McKendrick has left a significant legacy in many areas of the 探花直播 including undergraduate admissions, the development of the tripos, graduate education, pedagogic support and quality assurance.

Speaking about his appointment, Professor Rallison said: 鈥淚 am looking forward to taking on the challenging role of Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education. I am fortunate to have the opportunity to build on the considerable achievements of Professor Melveena McKendrick, particularly in the areas of graduate education and undergraduate recruitment.鈥

Professor Rallison was Director of 探花直播Newton Trust for 8 years. 探花直播Trust administers the Cambridge bursaries and also makes grants for research purposes within the 探花直播.

Under Professor Rallison鈥檚 directorship and since September 2006, the value of Cambridge bursaries has increased from 拢1,000 a year to 拢3,150 a year, far higher than the minimum 拢310 a year bursary required by OFFA. 探花直播number of students eligible for bursaries has also increased, benefitting up to a third of all students. A new director of the Trust will be appointed shortly.

探花直播new Senior Tutor at Trinity College will be Professor Grae Worster who will take up his post on 1st August.
