Courses offering members of the public access to some of the 探花直播 of Cambridge's state-of-the-art language facilities and scientific laboratories will be starting in the New Year.

探花直播courses, in French and Science, are being offered by the 探花直播's Institute of Continuing Education, in collaboration with the 探花直播 Language Centre and the Faculty of Education.

探花直播intermediate-level French course, Le Francais Facile, is aimed at French-speakers looking to refresh and progress their linguistic skills, and is being run in conjunction with the 探花直播's Language Centre.

探花直播programme will be self-study, but participants will have access to extensive tutor support, both face-to-face, by telephone and online.

探花直播course, which has been developed using the latest internet technology, will allow participants to start with different levels of ability and learn at their own pace using a wealth of online resources. There will also be six face-to-face study sessions.

Students will emerge from the 24-week course able to cope with a wide variety of situations demanding either oral or written French. They will be able not only to pick up facts but also understand and, up to a certain extent, use the language of opinions, attitudes, moods and wishes. Students will receive 30 transferable undergraduate level credit points which will show that they can handle complex issues in French and understand the basics of French grammar.

探花直播Science course will be delivered at the Faculty of Education, where participants will have access to state-of-the-art laboratory and presentation equipment, offering them exciting opportunities for 鈥渉ands-on鈥 study. Most of the classes will be in the evening, but there will also be a number of weekend day schools, and both will involve laboratory experiments as well as presentations from 探花直播 scientists.

Students will be able to choose their area of study from a list of scientific topics, including 鈥淕enes and Evolution鈥, 鈥淗ow Drugs Work鈥 and 鈥淲hy Does Biodiversity Matter?鈥.

探花直播classes will take place in the 探花直播's newly refurbished Science Education Centre at Homerton College. 探花直播courses will award 20 transferable credits.

鈥淥ur joint aim is to introduce the most exciting science to a wide audience,鈥 said Dr Lynne Harrison, Associate Director of the Institute of Continuing Education. 鈥淏eing able to give students the opportunities to actually 鈥榙o some science' in a modern laboratory environment is key to making science more accessible.

鈥淭hese courses are an excellent opportunity for the community to take advantage of the 探花直播's resources that has provided the best education world-wide for nearly 800 years.鈥

Details of both courses can be found on the Institute of Continuing Education website, by clicking on the links to the right of this page, or by calling Lynne Harrison on 01954 280255.
