Eminent Bangladeshi and international statesman Dr Kamal Hossain will be giving a distinguished lecture for the Cambridge ̽»¨Ö±²¥ Bangladesh Society tonight (31 May).
Working with the UN on Afghanistan, and a current member of the UN Compensation Commission, he is a world-renowned jurist sought for his legal expertise.
He received his doctorate in international law at Oxford ̽»¨Ö±²¥ and went on to become the Minister of Law in Bangladesh, making history when he wrote the country’s constitution in 1972.
After holding several offices in government, in the 1990s he formed his own political party in Bangladesh, the Gano Forum (People’s Forum). Internationally he has championed human rights, recently highlighting the plight of refugees in Afghanistan and campaigning for international aid.
He will be sharing his insight on the delicate balance of legal policy and politics in his lecture ‘Democracy and the Rule of Law’.
̽»¨Ö±²¥event will take place at 5.30pm at the Old Combination Room, Trinity College. All are welcome to the lecture, which is free of charge.
