A multi-sensory arts installation bringing together artists, musicians and scientists will be shown to the public on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 October as part of the ̽»¨Ö±²¥ of Cambridge's Festival of Ideas.

Inside an Unquiet Mind is a mixed media event that has been created by a group of individuals affected by mental health problems working with professional artists, musicians and scientists.

̽»¨Ö±²¥innovative project - which seeks to offer an insight and provoke discussion – has been put together by Squeaky Gate, a charity dedicated to empowering people through the arts.

̽»¨Ö±²¥evening will include performances of ̽»¨Ö±²¥Drug Suite, a modern opera that explores perceptions and experiences of psychiatric medication from a patient’s point of view.

Three Cambridge ̽»¨Ö±²¥ scientists involved in research into the working of the brain will be taking part in the Friday event, which has been created in partnership with Cambridge Neuroscience – a virtual centre of excellence linking researchers across many disciplines.

Dr Belinda Lennox of the Brain Mapping Unit at the Department of Psychiatry will talk about ̽»¨Ö±²¥Many Faces of Bipolar. Dr Graham Murray, Consultant Psychiatrist and Senior Clinical Research Associate at the Department of Psychiatry will give a presentation on Delusions, Hallucinations and Anhedonia in terms of Dopamine Dysfunction.

Professor Bill Harris, Head of the Department of Physiology, Development and Neuroscience will explain how studying the developing zebra fish can help us understand the brain, and how this may help us develop more effective therapies.

Inside an Unquiet Mind will take place at the Multi-Arts Community Space, 47 Norfolk Street, Cambridge (entry through ̽»¨Ö±²¥Box Café) on Friday 29 October and Saturday 30 October, 6.30 to 9.30 pm. No charge (donations welcome). Performances approximately on the hour. Drinks and refreshments available. Please note: the Cambridge scientists will be taking part in the Friday event only.
