A “total immersion” event in Cambridge this weekend marks the climax of a conference examining the work of performers and their creative role in making music.

A pioneering research centre studying live musical performance as creative practice launches in the Faculty of Music in October with funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC).

Why does one violin sound different to another? Investigating this question has brought together researchers from music, engineering, experimental psychology and computer science.
